It’s that time of year again… when we come together as a rental community in the spirit of kindness, generosity and compassion. Christmas décor springs up overnight, sleigh bells ring nostalgic and the warm fuzzy feeling of holiday cheer floods us all with love (and/or can be purchased in a red Starbucks cup). It’s also the time when we start thinking about the family Christmas tree. There is nothing like the scent of a fresh, live, locally-grown tree infusing your home with natural aroma.
Hollyburn is supporting the Scouts Christmas Tree Lot this year at Taylor Way & Clyde Avenue and sponsoring the subsequent Tree Chip-Up event at our commercial lot at 18 St and Marine Drive, both in West Vancouver. The tree sale and chip-up will support the 1st, 3rd and 16th West Van, 21st and 31st Capilano and 6th St. Agnes Scout troops.
Scouts Canada is the country's leading youth organization. For more than 100 years, the Scouts have brought a world of adventure, outdoor experience and friendship to 17 million Canadian youth. Buying your live tree from the Scout charity lot helps support the various programs that the Scouts offer to youth in our community. Hollyburn Properties would like the public to consider buying a live BC tree from the Scouts this year.
The lot will be located at the bottom of Taylor Way & Clyde Avenue in West Vancouver, and runs from Nov 23rd- Dec 23rd, 2013. Open weekdays from Noon-9pm and weekends from 9am-7pm. Local kids, local trees! Merry Christmas!

Hollyburn Properties is keen to get started on this year’s Covenant House backpack program. Several hundred homeless youth ages 16-24 receive a backpack full of brand new and unopened gift items during the holidays through Covenant House’s annual drive.
Last year, residents of Hollyburn’s rental apartments in Vancouver and Toronto generously donated clothing, toiletries, school supplies, gift certificates, games and much more. The items were collected from each building, then sorted and packaged at Head Office and delivered to Covenant House to place in Christmas backpacks. The youth who receive these backpacks are often overwhelmed with joy and pride at having gifts of their own to open during the holiday season. It is a seemingly small gesture that has a profound impact on the self-esteem, dignity and confidence of these young adults.
Help us again to fill backpacks with new and unopened items to help give CH youth the Christmas they deserve!

The neighbourhood of Kitsilano draws the type of cool, hip, laid-back Vancouverite who appreciates people-watching over a piping hot David’s tea and long walks on the beach. Not just any beach, however, but the sandy expanse that encompasses iconic Kits salt water pool, wraps along a strip of popular beach volleyball nets and urban basketball courts and curves around a bend where the dog beach and Maritime Museum greet English Bay across the narrow.
Known in the 1960’s as a hippy hangout, today, Kitsilano is mostly occupied by young urban professionals and families who enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and appreciate the quiet hum and hustle and bustle outside of the city center. Still full of culture, the action is centered on West Fourth Avenue and West Broadway, with cool cafes, ethnic restaurants, independent grocers and bars that attract the good looking university crowd (students and faculty alike).
Seaside plaza offers some of the finest rental apartments in Vancouver, with unobstructed views of the North Shore Mountains, the ocean and the city skyline. The suites for rent are spacious, many featuring full renovations with laminate hardwood floors, stainless steel appliances and modern fixtures and cabinetry. November’s “Suite of the Month” is a gorgeous and bright 1 bedroom apartment on the second floor.

Hollyburn Properties was honoured yesterday at the Better Business Bureau serving Mainland BC’s 6th annual Torch Awards. Among a banquet room full of deserving businesses, Hollyburn’s 40 years of community involvement were recognized with the prestigious award for Community Excellence, Large Category.
The Torch Awards are the BBB’s most celebrated event of the year. A business recognition awards program created to acknowledge and promote ethics in the marketplace, the theme this year being: “Better Business, Better Community.”
Hollyburn’s long-standing community initiatives include sponsoring gardens and the Healthy Living Program at local non-profit RainCity Housing, subsidizing City School, an inner-city alternative program at King George Secondary and collaborating with Covenant House International for the past 11 years. You can read three inspiring stories of youth who have benefitted from the fully furnished apartments Hollyburn dedicates to Covenant House on our blog. Jason, Darla and Joanne each have unique circumstances that led them onto the street, yet are unified here in having been given the opportunity at getting their feet back on the ground and starting a new life.
The point of the Torch Awards is to recognize organizations that have a mission of business ethics, honesty and integrity. The Community Excellence award in particular, recognizes businesses that blend financial success with a strong commitment to positive community impact. Hollyburn’s business is a community business and the company will continue to strive to revitalize neighbourhoods, create opportunities and strengthen and support community economic and social development. Rent with a company that cares!
