Covenant House Christmas Backpack Program - 2014

Every year since 2002, Hollyburn has supported our charity partner Covenant House in providing backpacks full of new clothing, hygiene items and gifts during the holiday season to distribute to youth in need.  This program is one of several tremendous engagement opportunities our residents have access to throughout the year to participate in a charity initiative and spread goodwill.  Each and every year we are humbled and amazed at the generosity of the Hollyburn community. (Check out the contributions from last year!)

Me, My Library, My Neighbourhood - Winter Colouring Contest

Do you love to draw or colour?  Hollyburn Properties has teamed up with long-term community partner, the North Vancouver City Library, to launch an exciting series of seasonal colouring contests engaging the theme of Me – My Library – My Neighbourhood.

Did you know?  Ten years ago, Hollyburn and the City of North Van were involved in a land exchange that allowed the construction of the new library and Civic Plaza, as well as established the site of Hollyburn’s very first new rental development, M2

The colouring contest is designed to introduce M2, the neighbourhood’s new rental community on the corner of 14th and Chesterfield, to the City of North Vancouver.  Be a part of this emerging community by entering the Winter Colouring Contest, for a chance to have your artwork featured on site signage throughout project development!

Winter is Coming! How to Prepare Your Apartment

What is "winterization," you ask?  It refers to the process of preparing something for winter and the holiday season, in this case: your rental apartment.  Hollyburn Properties goes to great lengths to train our resident managers on winterizing their buildings.  This process includes clearing all eaves and drains of leaves and debris, pruning the landscaping, storing hoses, sprinklers and garden equipment, shoveling snow, salting walkways and testing building boiler and heating systems.

As a benefit of being a renter, the majority of winterization processes are taken care of for you (phew)!  There are still, however, several tips and tricks to keep you comfortable during the colder season, and to ensure your holiday plans run as smoothly as a warm cup of eggnog.


As the holiday season approaches, many of you will be travelling or having company over to enjoy a good meal.  In order to make sure there are no last minute surprises (such as an oven or appliance not working when you need it most), please check the operation of the following appliances and systems in your home:

  •  All stove burners
  •   Oven
  •   Broiler
  •   Microwave
  •   Dishwasher
  •  Drains – sink, bathroom, guest rooms, etc.
  •  Garbage disposer
  •    Heating vents

If something requires attention, please inform your resident manager as soon as possible, so that we can respond to maintenance requests in advance of the hustle, bustle and stress of the holiday season.  This will also allow us enough time to order any parts if necessary.

As a friendly reminder, please be aware that live Christmas trees and unattended candles are not permitted in Hollyburn suites related to City fire codes.  However, artificial trees and other seasonal decorations are highly encouraged!

We would like to wish you a happy and festive holiday season and hope everyone enjoys relishing in their warm and cozy apartments as the cold winds howl outside.

Hollyburn Properties is proud to support The Royal Canadian Legion during Veterans' Week each year by making poppies available in each of our rental building lobbies in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Ottawa, and matching all charitable donations from our residents.  The poppy is the official symbol of remembrance, worn to commemorate fallen soldiers around the world.

A rare glimmer of sunlight shone through the clouds last Wednesday as Hollyburn founder, Mr. Stephen Sander and City of North Vancouver Mayor, Darrell Mussatto, dug their golden shovels into the earth and broke ground on the site of the City’s first new rental development in decades.


After nearly 40 years as a leader in property management across Canada, Marlborough Tower 2 (M2) represents Hollyburn’s first new construction development.  The development of M2 is an exciting milestone both for Hollyburn and the City of North Vancouver, as the project adds 130 crucial rental suites to the heart of Central Lonsdale, in support of the City of North Vancouver’s commitment to providing diverse housing options.

“The 130 suites of various sizes that make up the M2 project will offer important rental opportunities for City residents in need of rental housing,” said Mayor Darrell Mussatto.
"This will support the City's efforts in maintaining diverse housing options for a welcoming and healthy community."

The development project is ten years in the making and involves a land exchange between Hollyburn and the City of North Vancouver that allowed for the establishment of the adjacent ‘Civic Heart,’ including the new City Library, expanded City Hall and the creation of a Public Plaza. “There was once a community dream to create a world-class precinct in the City of North Vancouver,” said Hollyburn Director Paul Sander.  “M2 is the final component in completing the vision for this area. Rental housing is an enduring public asset and this new rental high-rise will serve the community of North Vancouver for generations to come.”

Founder Mr. Stephen Sander furthered the sentiment by assuring the crowd of project contributors, City Councilors and community stakeholders that “Hollyburn is here to stay in the City of North Vancouver!”


M2 will offer 14 floors, providing 130 stunning rental suites from studios to townhouses.  The building’s green design is committed to sustainability, and boasts an industry-leading rooftop garden and common area as well as spectacular views, professional live-in management and convenient access to the heart of the City and the North Shore’s surrounding natural beauty.  Move in's are anticipated for Summer 2016. Rents will start at $1100 per month.

What Is The Next Big Thing?

In the dynamic tech and start-up landscape of North America, The Next Big Thing is breaking ground and setting trends.  A non-profit foundation conceived by Hootsuite CEO Ryan Holmes and serial entrepreneur Meredith Powell, and supported by some of Canada's top business leaders, its mission to identify and empower young entrepreneurs.  Through a series of innovative programs, “code camps”, and unconventional learning opportunities, TNBT is giving Generation Z the resources, education and network they need to succeed.

Specifically, The Young Entrepreneurs in Residence (YEIR) program, under the umbrella of TNBT, is providing 10 lucky youth, aged 17-22, the opportunity of a lifetime.  Over the course of 6 months they’ll receive:
