A gym, dishwasher, granite countertops… What features do you look for when considering a rental apartment?

A recent study conducted by the National Multi Housing Council (NMHC) and Kingsley Associates includes the feedback from nearly 15,000 apartment residents from across the United States on what their most desirable building and suite amenities are.  The NMHC are champions at advancing the multi-family apartment rental industry in innovative ways and we often look to our neighbours down south for insights on improving our operations and customer service.

According to the survey, high-speed internet access and a patio or balcony top the list of most desirable amenities for apartment residents.  How do you feel about the results below?  Do they fall in line with your desires and values?

It's BBQ Time, Hollyburn Resident Appreciation!

It’s that time of the year again! Hollyburn Properties proudly presents our annual resident appreciation summer BBQ’s.  Building social resiliency in rental apartment buildings, through community events such as these BBQ’s, is crucial in enhancing the experience of urban living.  Hollyburn works hard to create opportunities for engagement as we feel that fostering social interaction between residents in a compact urban environment positively impacts the health, wellness and overall sustainability of rental communities.

All BBQ’s take place from 5-7pm, perfect timing to swing by and grab a smokie on your way home from work.  There will be hot dogs, cheeseburgers, veggie options, chips, drinks and all of the fixings.  Posters in your building lobby will list specific dates. Whether you come for 30 minutes or 3, take a moment to greet your resident manager and your neighbours. You never know the friendships and opportunities that await right outside your apartment door!

Did you know that Hollyburn Properties has many long-standing partnerships with organizations in our community?  One of our proudest achievements is a 12 year relationship with Covenant House Vancouver, a non-profit committed to providing shelter, community support services, drug and alcohol counseling and transitional living programs for at-risk street youth.  This partnership began with a clothing drive and gift in kind furniture donations and has evolved over time to include 5 Hollyburn apartments in Vancouver and Toronto dedicated to housing select Covenant House youth in their transition to independent living.

    Hollyburn Donates 6000 Pounds of Food for Spring Hope Food Drive

    Two years running and more than double the results!  BC’s second annual Spring Hope Food Drive was by all respects, a resounding success.  Organized by LandlordBC, the Spring Hope Food Drive was graciously carried out by a committed group of UBC student volunteers, canvassing door-to-door with the help of dedicated building management teams such as Hollyburn Properties.

    Spring Hope is unique.  The only food drive of its kind to specifically target apartment dwellers, the goal: to stock food bank shelves during the lull between Christmas and Easter, when donations are critically low.  Spring Hope is an amazing opportunity for housing providers and tenants to work together to positively impact our community, and initiatives such as this allow multi-family building residents to make a difference in the lives of families in need.

    And how much fun!  The joy, compassion and energy from everyone  involved in this event was clear.  Community partner Modo the Car Coop generously provided transportation and ignited what is sure to be a long-standing partnership between the organizers and the coop.  Altogether, over 12,000 pounds of food was collected in support of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society.  Hollyburn was able to generate almost 6,000 pounds, nearly half of the total result.

    “Hollyburn buildings had a tremendous amount success collecting food bank donations this year.  I’d like to thank our residents for their generosity and our building managers for all of their help and hard work in executing the event,” said Allan Wasel, Hollyburn General Manager in BC.  “The care and commitment really shows.”

    Ontario’s long-standing version of Spring Hope is currently in its 12th year.  The event takes place at Hollyburn Toronto buildings on Tuesday, April 8th.
